I coincidentally fell to this article about an immersive show presenting the world in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Against my expectation that it will be about nice, positive experiences for the children who were the main customers, it was the opposite, criticizing the lack of preparation and determination. One problem was the set itself—representing nothing like the actual chocolate factory. The decorations were effortless and did not meet up to the expectations of the excited visitors. Moreover, another problem was that this flat, “non-immersive” show was overly advertised with AI-generated images, eventually ending with people feeling tricked. No personal feelings against AI as they can be used in other helpful ways, but in this incident, it shows a bad example of how AI can be used. AI was used to create promotion images and scripts for the actors, which, according to the comedian acting as Wonka, was a gibberish of mad things. Therefore, the $44 worth tickets did not do their worth, and led to the buyers asking for a refund. Overall, I feel like this incident shows how AI can be easily and affordably used in business and promoting settings, however, depending who uses it and how, the outcome can become very nice or like this scam chocolate factory ruining children’s dreams. On the flip side, this also tells how well AI generated the images because people were excited after seeing the photos uploaded as what the display “should’ve” looked like. It is easier to create well-made images through AI, but now it is a harder challenge to meet up to that presentation and reproduce something as detailed in the real world.
