There was one idea I wanted to develop into this project of mapping. My favorite painter is Claude Monet and I love all his works. Especially when I go see it displayed in the museum, it always gives me a four dimensional feeling although it was just a painting in a frame. His paintings made me feel like I was in the painted setting itself, like feeling the wind or seeing the people moving. That’s why I thought it would be nice to combine the stillness of framed paintings with the movement of the projection mapping programs.
For now my idea is to use real paintings of Monet as inspiration, each painting a different setting or motif, and create projections of them. For example, if it was a lake and water landscape, I would try to make projections that combine the movement of waves, blue shades, swirls, lily pads, etc. I want to emphasize the impressionistic style, focusing on more vague outlines and sharp objects. Whatever it turns out to be, I wish it just looks immense and absorbs the audience as if they are at a museum. There can also be figures and those figures can be moving or walking to make the scene look more alive. The projection will be fit to stay right inside the frames. I am debating on the display of the frames and in what way to hang them (vertically, random, etc). So far, this is the idea I feel most pulled towards, and hopefully the projection makes the feeling of movement and illusionary(?) effect.
