The rough plan I had for this Daydream Project is changing “dimensions” or worlds through a door. The video would start with a character watching the Ghibli movie, Totoro. In this movie, there is a scene where the cat bus comes to pick up the girl and Totoro at the bus stop. This character wishes to be in this illustrative and peaceful world inside the movie. After watching the movie (and wishing), the character leaves the house by opening the door, but on the other side of the door is a new world, one that looks similar to that in the movie. This new setting will be the animated part, and it will include the cat bus (maybe changed to a different animal or type of vehicle for spice) and maybe even a big, cute friend. However, there could be dangers or other types of factors that lead the character to decide to go back home, back to the real world. The character opens the door again, and it is back inside the home it was in. For the animated part, I wanted to try as far as I can with hand-drawn animation, but I know hand-drawn animation will take a lot of time, so I want to incorporate After Effects as well. I want the overall video to be calm and peaceful at first, but gradually meet a climactic point, leading back to the beginning, back to reality for an overall narrative. I also plan to use different sounds that match the animations to make it feel more real, and hope it creates the light, lively mood intended.
